Merge duplicate contributors

Sometimes one person ends up as two contributors, for example after an import or when they give with a second email. GoodChange finds possible duplicates so you can merge them. Merging keeps each contributor's totals accurate.

Review possible duplicates

  1. Click Contributors in the left menu.
  2. When GoodChange finds possible duplicates, a banner at the top of the list says how many there are, for example "10 possible duplicate contributors to review".
  3. Click Review in the banner.
  4. Compare the two records: name, email, and contributions.
  5. Choose one:
    • Merge the two records into one.
    • Mark them as different people. They stay separate.

Before you merge

Merging moves every contribution from one record onto the other. It can't be undone. If you're not sure the two records are the same person, mark them as different people instead.

After a merge, the contributor's Total spend includes the contributions from both records.
