# Respond to a dispute

A dispute happens when a contributor asks their bank to reverse a charge. You respond with evidence from **Finance → Disputes**. The evidence goes to Stripe.

### Find disputes that need you

1. Click **Finance** in the left menu, then the **Disputes** tab.
2. Check the counts at the top: **Needs a response**, **At stake**, and **Due within 7 days**.
3. Use the filters:
   - **Needs response:** disputes waiting on your evidence.
   - **Submitted:** disputes you've already responded to.
   - **All:** every dispute.

You can also search by contributor or reason.

### Respond before the deadline

Every dispute has an evidence deadline. If you miss it, the dispute is lost by default. Start with anything under **Due within 7 days**.

### Submit evidence

1. Under **Needs response**, open the dispute.
2. Add your evidence.
3. Submit it.

Your evidence goes to Stripe. You can't take it back or change it after you submit, so check it first.

After you submit, the dispute moves to **Submitted**.

### Find contributors with disputes

On **Contributors**, choose the **With disputes** view to see everyone who has disputed a payment.

If you use the Slack integration, disputes are also posted to your Slack channel. See **More → Developer → Integrations**.
